Last week of school :)

I left Thursday night to head to Shreveport to see Grandma. She has her good days and her bad days. The good days are starting to be more frequent. They took out her NG Tube and her J Tube. They said today that they are going to transfer her to a inpatient rehab place. So, thats exciting news.

I had my MedSurg final today. If I didn't pass it... then I will have to start the semester over in June. I'm not confident that I passed it... The test was very very very difficult...

I have two more finals tomorrow...

In Shreveport Again

Grandma is still making progress. I went and seen her today... Right before I got there she had just got up and walked to the door and back. She had bathed herself. And she got a breathing treatment. So, she was pretty wore out. They gave her some more pain medicine. I talked to her for a while but then had to get back with the kiddos.

This evening, they took out her NG tube (Nasogastric Tube that goes in her tostrils into her stomach). She did get a little nauseated but they gave her some medication and it fixed that.

She seems to be doing a lot better since the last time I saw her. All of her vitals were great. They are going to try and let her eat some clear liquids tomorrow if her stomach can handle it. While I was there today she said her stomach was growling, so that's good news.

A nurse came by and dropped off some pamplets for her to read about her colonostomy.

Forgot...

And the dirty food monster strikes again :)

I forgot to mention that they have her on TPN. Which is total parenteral nutrician. Which is basically where they put lipids, amino acids, glucose, and salt into her vein. It basically bypasses the stomach and gives her exactly what she needs. They did end up having to give her a unit of blood today.

Update for Wed

What do you get when you give a 1 year old some chocolate ice cream? A big mess!!

Grandma is doing good. They said last night she was talking in her sleep about the grandbabies. Kayli said she kept talking about Jaicee in her sleep. Then, this morning she was holding Stephen in her sleep and just to patting his back and asking if he was cold. Then, directing them to the trash can. he he he.

They came and took some blood out of her picc line this morning but had to take some more out of her arm because the blood didnt look good. We as a family are going to have to go donate some blood for her. She will probably get another unit of blood today.

We are heading back over there tomorrow. I'm excited to get to see her longer than 20 minutes at a time. It will be nice.

Update for Tuesday

Grandma has been moved to a step down room finally. That is good news. She was up and walking and sitting up in bed.

She is restless at night so they have been giving her Ativan to sleep. The Oncologist still hasn't been by to see the family. Dr Williams said that he had been by to see Grandma. Dr Williams can't really answer any of our questions which is annoying. He said that they wouldn't be able to start chemo for atleast 6 weeks. He said that it is a fast spreading cancer and they probably wouldn't be able to cure her, but hey would be able to treat her. Whatever the hell that means. But, it is in her lymph nodes.

I guess right now its just a waiting game...

Update for Monday

Well, the swine flu is spreading like crazy. Our clinicals have been cancelled. We only had two days left... but Wednesday was the day we were supposed to go see the autopsy. But, I think they may reschedule it for the summer. I'm hoping! I have three test Thursday, one test next Monday, and two tests next Wed and then I'm out for three weeks, yay.

Grandma seems to be doing great as of today. All her vitals have been under control. She hasn't been running a fever without Tylenol. Mom said she asked her her hair to be brushed and asked for her glasses. Said she was cutting up with them. She was telling my dad that he was going to lose his job for being there and dad told her not to worry about that.

The oncologist still hasn't been by as of this afternoon. He could come after 5 or so we are hoping. Dr Williams said that he was going to talk to the other doctors about trying to get her in a "step-down" room. It is a step down from ICU. Visitors are allowed around the clock, yay.

Also, mom said her coughing had got better. When I was there they were giving her breathing treatments. Whenever she would cough it was like she couldn't get anything up. But now she is actually getting mucous up when she coughs. So, they have bumped her down to one breathing treatment a day.

She has a long road ahead of her. I hope she is ready to fight...
