Brian's Sleep Study

We had his sleep study last night. It was very interesting. They hooked him up with stuff all over his head and body. They brought in a little crib for him to sleep in. I finally got him settled him and got him asleep about 10:30ish. After he was asleep they came in and hooked him up to the pulse ox and a little thing in front of his nose so they could tell if he was taking a breath. Throughout the night the pulse ox machine beeped so many times I can't even remember. I would wake up and it would be in the 70's and 80's but on its way back up. I think the machine was set to only alarm if it went under 90. When it would alarm I would check to see if he was moving around because the machine is really sensitive. But, he would be in a dead sleep not moving. I asked the tech about it in the morning and he said that his sat's did drop several times during the night. But, he wasn't allowed to tell me anything because a specialist has to review the findings. His follow up appt is Tuesday at 12:30, so I guess we will find out then. He did a good job though. The place was really neat. I had my own little room with a TV and everything. I didn't get very much sleep but oh well.

Today in the life of Manhards

I went to school today. I took care of a patient that was sepsis from a UTI. She also tested positive for PCP and a number of other things. I got to take her blood sugar, give her meds, and give an injection of insulin. Next week I am on MedSurg floor again for 1 day then doing a rotation in PACU. So, that should be fun. We have the option at the end of the semester to go see an autopsy be done. At first I was like OMG I'm going to choose not to. Then, I started thinking that this is probably a once in a lifetime oppurtunity so I better do it. But only 19 people can go so the people with the top 19 class grades get to go. So, we'll see.

Stephen's rash is getting worse but it doesn't seem to bother him. I'm keeping an eye on it. Brian's sleep study is tomorrow so I'm trying to get things ready for that. I have a Pedi test in the morning so I'm going to try and study tonight... we'll see.

Barium Swallow

So, Brian had his barium swallow this morning with a speech pathologist. It was pretty cool. They made us put lead gowns on and we watched from the side. The first procedure they made him swallow the barium and watched it all the way through the stomach. Next they sat him a little carseat looking thing and gave him barium and changed the consistancy of the liquid and changed the flow of the nipples. He drank that and they took xrays to make sure none of it was going into his lungs. It was pretty neat to watch. He had no problems swallowing the stuff and didn't cry at all. The doctor there said everything looked great to him. So, we will do the sleep study on Thursday. My teacher at school had to take her son to the same place we are going on Thursday. She said that the pulse ox on his toe is visible. I'm curious to see what his pulse ox stays at when he is alseep all night, so I'm happy that I will be able to see it.

After we went there we stopped and got the kids some clothes for Easter presents. Jaicee needed some new shoes. The mall we went to didn't have hardly anything so I was a little disappointed. Oh well.... Well, its almost time to take Jaicee to cheer practice. She is excited to show all her friends her new shoes that light up.

Another Fall

(I'm trying to post a pic but its not working....)

Stephen falls and bumps his head ALL THE TIME. Well, today I was cooking dinner and Matt and Stephen werein the shower. I hear Stephen fall in the hallway but then Matt came around the corner holding Stephen. I was talking to Matt and he turned while holding Stephen and he had a big goose egg on his head. I was finishing up dinner and Matt was getting ready for work and we couldn't find Stephen. He had crawled up in our bed and went to sleep. He hadn't had a nap all day, so I'm hoping thats all it is. I will just have to keep an eye on him. He falls all the time and its scary when his head gooses up like this.

Rash

Today I had to be at school at 8am. Nothing much going on there. Just had a lecture over the GI.
Stephen has a rash all over his torso. So, I took him to the doctor at 1pm. Said it was just a viral rash of some kind. It doesn't seem to itch him or bother him so I'm not too worried about it.
Everyone from Matt's work keeps calling him to try and talk him out of leaving his job.
Tomorrow is Brian's barium study. So, we are going to drop Jaicee and Stephen off at my moms house and take him to that.

Saturday...

Today we are at my mom's house hanging out. I did not intend to spend the night here so I brought no extra clothes with me. So, Stephen is running around in a pink shirt. I think its funny.

Matts New Job

(Yes, this is the best picture I could find)
Matt interviewed for a different job about two weeks ago. Today he got the phone call saying he got the job. It is more money than he is making now and less hours. He will now be working 6pm-1am. Which is great. Right now he is working until 5am and then staying up with the kids during the day. He just left for work to hand him his two week notice. He may get walked out and be able to start his new job on Monday. This will be a great change for us. The company he works from now is very likely to go under. This job will be more stable. Yay, cheers for Matt.
